about us

We’re Zainub & Ben

We live on the 3rd floor of the Montague Rose! (Separate from the guest areas).

In 2021 we left our lives on the West Coast to invest fully in the Montague Rose. We’ve been carefully renovating each space while taking care of our toddler and new baby girl who was born in Saint Andrews. The Montague Rose is our home and we understand this restoration project will be lifelong. Come and share the journey with us, the deer and the friendly locals of Saint Andrews.

Zainub comes from a career in interior design with a specialization in custom cabinets and luxury closet design. She is from Vancouver, BC but spent most of her prekids life travelling the world where she met Ben teaching English in South Korea. She loves project development and learning new DIY skills which makes working on The Montague Rose a dream job.

Bens background is in teaching and curriculum development for international students. He loves working with newcomers to Canada and has a friendly and welcoming demeanor which makes our guests feel right at home. He is from Kent, England and will happily share a pint and talk football with you any day of the week.

Saint Andrews

The Montague Rose is located in the heart of Saint Andrews. It is a 3-5 minute walk to Water Street, Kingsbrae gardens, and NBCC campus. We are located just two blocks away from the retail shops but we are on a street that is completely silent and peaceful at night.

History of the Montague Rose

The Montague Rose was built in 1859 for Dr. Samuel Tilley Gove, assistant surgeon to the Charlotte County Militia, he was also president of the Bank Of Charlotte County.

It sits on one of the last few remaining quarter lot sites on a dominant position in the heart of the Town of St Andrews.

The home was constructed in the French Provincial design with Italianate features.

It still retains the massive interior wood mouldings and hand applied plaster crown mouldings still adorn the main room ceilings. Although the exterior faux balconies have long ago disappeared it still retains its original charm.

The Montague Rose Bed and Breakfast has been operating since 2008 and has recently changed ownership. Zainub and Ben Faulkner-Malik are currently refinishing each space of the house to enhance its original charm with the addition of some modern comforts.
